La relación con la aeromoza se mantuvo velada y en secreto como su enfermedad, en el mismo plano y con el mismo cerrojo, hasta que se desveló después de su defunción”, escribe la autora. “Vinogradoff -dice el escritor Rafael Arraíz Lucca en el prólogo- va penetrando en el laberinto y va hallando huellas que no formaban parte del espectro de su pesquisa, pero que le añaden sustancia al relato y alimentan el retrato de un personaje inevitable de la vida venezolana”. En el libro se revelan los “misterios” que rodearon su enfermedad. A distancia, el médico venezolano desafió el “telón de hierro”, que impuso la parte oficial, y logró informaciones valiosas directamente de fuentes venezolanas y cubanas que le permitieron hacer un diagnóstico interpretativo sobre la deteriorada salud de Chávez, la cual de conocerse oportunamente, habría hecho evidente que no estaba en condiciones de reelegirse en el cargo. Así que el ocultamiento de su verdadero cáncer sirvió al chavismo, tras bastidores, como instrumento para controlar y corromper el poder en Venezuela más allá de su muerte. La primera versión impresa fue producida por Libros El Nacional bajo el título de El ocaso del comandante, pero debido a las dificultades de editar libros en el país quisimos presentar esta nueva versión actualizada y ampliada.

Ludmila Vinogradoff Sorokin comenzó su carrera periodística en El Nacional, cubriendo las fuentes políticas y económicas. Ha sido corresponsal internacional en Caracas de El País de España y la revista Semana de Colombia. Actualmente trabaja para el diario ABC de España y Clarín de Argentina. Nació en Shangai, China, de madre rusa y padre chino. Buscando la libertad su familia desembarcó en Venezuela. Se graduó en la Universidad Central de Venezuela y después realizó un posgrado sobre Cine y Comunicación de Masas en la École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales en París. Su pasión por la investigación para escudriñar la verdad la ha llevado, por más de 25 años, a desvelar escándalos de corrupción que han marcado un hito en la historia política nacional.

A strange and interesting story!

Had the opportunity to read this. A very interesting rendition of the story behind Hugo Chavez's illness and death and all the secrecy that surrounded it! Hopefully, there will be an English version soon
