Review
"In the past few years, a body of knowledge about how people find their way around in buildings has accumulated, appearing in journals and presented at conferences; but until now it has been diffuse. Paul Arthur and Romedi Passini's WAYFINDING have pulled together most of this knowledge, and it appears within the covers none too soon." -- Design Book Review, 1992

The Wayfinding Bible
By Sharon Toji
I was fortunate enough to meet Paul Arthur and have dinner at his house in Toronto when I invited him to be part of a presentation on accessible signage I was giving at the annual international convention of the International Sign Association. He was a pioneer in the use of pictographic symbols for wayfinding, but this book is about much more than symbol signs. It was written before the ADA signage standards became widely known, and of course Paul was from Canada, so their codes, which he helped write, were a little different. He makes the subject, in all its complexity, seem entertaining. You get caught up in the beginning pages as he follows someone trying to catch a train on time, and you are hooked -- or at least I was! You might also want to check out his posthumously published book, "Wayfinding: PictograhicSystems / Noverbal. Universal." The publisher is Focus Strategic Communications Incorporated, 1905, Ontario, Canada.
